How to use the Notion app for productivity

This blog is all about tips and tricks to learn better and Technology, and I feel very happy to share my experience with you.

In this blog, we're going to talk about; how to be more productive, you're gonna learn a lot of new vocabulary about organization and digital planning. I want you to know about an app that I've been using for the past, like six months, and this app has made my life so much easier and better. So, I have always been a little bit of a mess, when it comes to organizing things and my life in general, for example, if you have been following my blog for a long time, you know that I've been uploading posts maybe once a week, and maybe every two weeks and sometimes once a month and sometimes once every two months. But I'm over that.

 Because of the global pandemic and everything that has happened, I decided to make a change in my life, and I decides to be better at organizing things, to do the things I needed to do for my website and all of my life to function. And the best way for me to do so was in digital planning. 

First, I created a digital planner to track my days and my daily task and all my appointments and all that, and that's what I used at the beginning, but then, I discovered a new app called notion, which is one of the best apps I've used and so far it's been one of the most used in my life right now. 

Of course, I also use Task and Google Calendar, but the notion is where I have all my base work in it, and also the people that work with me, we all sync with the notion. So it's a great option.

So, throughout this whole article, please keep in mind that English is not my first language and I'm trying to be as fluent as possible but I can make some mistakes, and forgive me if I do. Ok, I'm gonna show you how to use that app, so let's go to the article.

So, to start you're going to go to the notion. So, there, you can download and make an account for free, there are also team accounts and they start for dollars. Then, you can open your notion and also download an app for your computer or phone. Inside the app, you're going to see a bunch of pages ready for you to write something, and the way it works is by creating new content with the plus button. 

The possibilities to organize your life inside of notion are endless, and in case you need some inspiration, you can use the “templates” section of your notion to see the different ways to use the tool. Because you can insert so many elements within a notion, sometimes it can be overwhelming to think creatively, because of that, you will find in the link a set of different cute templates that you can use for free. 

Here you have a bunch of templates. For example: If you want the natural, neutral and for example, I'm gonna choose the purple lavender. It's really pretty. For you to use it you need to log in to your notion account first, hit the duplicate button to reach your account. So now it's duplicated into my account so you can see how it looks. 

This is highly customizable, the template is just giving you different options that you can use to organize everything, I will show you some examples. So let's say you wanna make a homepage where you can see everything. From daily tasks and daily routines and appointments. So you can start on the homepage. 

You can have a little to-do list for everything, so for example here on this notion you can customize if you don't want this one, this section you can just delete it if you don't like this color you can change it. And here there's a bunch of pagers that you can use for your life, for example, here, calendar, you can go there and you can start writing on this calendar. 

Here's a daily task that you can use or you can, like, make your own. A to-do list, all of that is right here, for example, daily task, if you are in classes… timelines… and you can use the inside of everything, for example, the morning routine, you can go there and there's a to-do list for your morning routine. And all of these pictures, you can have them upload from your computer, here, you can see how this is highly customizable, like, everything. Ok, so, now I'm going to tell you how my notion works for me. Here I have it, I uploaded a picture, if you wanna do something like this, you can hit the plus button, select text and then you can say, “title”, now select the title, you can use the heading to make it bigger and also you can select color, for example, orange, there you have it. And you can start writing everything. 

Let's say you wanna make a to-do list, so, you're gonna hit the plus button, choose to-do list and then say “dentist appointment” and then “homework” and then “do the laundry” every time you finish a task, you can go and hit the check button. Every little task I put right here so I have a place to check and it's so satisfying. Like, it just feels so good to press the “done” button. The notion is especially good when it comes to organizing content for a social media account. I can keep track of the content I have to write about, film, schedule… and so on.

I write down all the scripts for each article, so I can have a better idea of how I want to film it, what I need to make it work, etc… After a while of creating content, this comes in handy to not lose the purpose of the video. I have found that I'm a talker and sometimes I get too excited and start to talk about something else, and no, I have gone back to the initial content, so Notion has helped me do so. 

I have another table where I put every content that I need to do for the website, by the way, If you haven't followed me on my other social media, be sure to follow me on Facebook and Instagram, we also have a LinkedIn and Pinterest account. So, here I write down every piece of content for all my social media, and I use the little “tags” to help me know the format of the content if I'm going to use it for Instagram, Facebook, video, insta stories, etc. 

So here I have my homepage, it's full of pictures I made a mood board for everything that I want so I can envision them and I can feel more productive. All these pictures I uploaded directly from Pinterest. You have to download this one, and after you do so, you go back to your planner, let's say you want it here, you just drop it and here you can resize it. For example here, if you wanted a little bit smaller. 

So here you can put some other phrases, so here, text, which can say something like an inspirational quote, and you can highlight it and then use the heading so it goes way bigger and you can use some color, and you can insert emojis too. In this plus button, go to the emoji, now choose copy and paste here. You can use some tables of content, let's create a table, now we have a table and we say content, the content name is “tips to learn English” now, tags, I would put in what social media it's gonna be, so I'm gonna select and multi-select and then you can create your tags, like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest. 

Now every time you write down something you can choose from one of the tags, for example, let's make a trip to learn English, let's set a date, you can choose “date” and let's say, for tomorrow and here you can insert a checkbox and you can check done. Here's one of the ways that you can use content tables, but like, the notion you can use it for literally everything, the template section, you can choose from personal, human resources, you can use any of these templates for your own. 

So, every time you want to access your notion account, just go to this website or download the app directly to your computer or phone. It's also very useful if you´re working with a remote team to keep track of everything everyone's doing.
